Stitchings

These drawings were created using a sewing machine during the long dark winter days and nights at the Fish Factory Artist in Residency in Iceland. Traveling abroad for the first time as a photographer, one not acquainted with so much darkness, Iceland posed mental and physical challenges. Somehow, despite knowing that my hands need to stay busy so my brain can relax, I left all of my crocheting and knitting projects in California. One of the directors of the residency could sense trouble brewing and introduced me to a sewing machine. it was the perfect medium for my hand-driven response to the geography of the remote fishing village.
