Blood Samples

I have always been drawn to the Nevada nuclear tests site photographs by plane by Emmet Gowin. These photographs take something innately horrifying and render it beautiful through an altered and directed point of view. This interest in aesthetics and horror-inspired “Blood Samples”.

My fascination with my own body, my medical experiences, and personal ailments aligned with my interests in expanding photographic processes. This manifested into a new portfolio composed of blood scan prints. Using my own blood placed directly onto the glass surface of a photo scanner I was able to create organic, abstracted images that defy specificity. For this series, I established one rule: no intentional bleeding or cutting, only nose bleeds or kitchen accidents.
