Artists in residencies are a driving force in Caterina’s image-making. Her first residency and community collaboration were at the Huntington Beach Art Center, Huntington Beach, followed by a residency and solo exhibition at the Grand Central Art Center, Des Moines Art Center, Iowa, and Northern Illinois University Art Museum, DeKalb, Illinois. She has also participated in winter and summer stays at the Fish Factory, Iceland.

Her awards include a first-place award exhibition Elsewhere & Other Places with her collaborator Beatrice Magalotti, Artaviso, Australia.  She was the first visual artist chosen for the Artist in Residence series at Orange County Great Park, Irvine, CA in 2011 and created the second work of public art in their collection. She was nominated and awarded the Lucas Arts Residency at Montalvo Arts Center, Saratoga Springs, CA in 2008.

Co-curator of Rat Powered Films from 2003-2011. Rat Powered Films received grants from National Alliance for Mental Illness Orange County (NAMI) and Downtown Santa Ana Business Council to create original photographic and film content for screenings and exhibitions. These films include interviews with members of the NAMI, “Art as Anodyne,” and “Consumption” about living with bipolar disorder and the stigma of medication.

Rat Powered Films curated exhibitions with the Cal State Fullerton Grand Central Art Center including 6 Booths in 7 Weeks, an international video art exhibition, and Handmade Puppet Dreams designed with emerging puppeteers including Heather Henson. Amy’s MFA exhibition, A Simple Plan, consisted of 12 short films created from 1999-2002, including an animated “6 Shorts about (non) Motherhood” and “Untitled (I’m sorry it’s just very frustrating.”

Caterina’s work as an independent curator includes working with the Southern California Artists Gallery to exhibit photographs by Brendan Bannon: Refugees, Bob Pece’s “The Color in Nature” paintings and films at Irvine Valley College Gallery, and “6 Degrees,” multi-media presentation at the Space On Spurgeon in Santa Ana.

Caterina’s first book of photographs, French Park was published in Spring 2021. She is also featured in 100 Artists See Satan, in its third printing, and NY Collects Buffalo State, published by the Burchfield Penney Art Center. She is currently in the preparation and design phase of her second book which will feature her polaroid photographs from 1997-2021.
